Contact lenses are medical devices, which need to be assessed by a registered optometrist for correct fitting and to ensure that the optimum lens material is used  for the continued health of your eyes.

No, when a contact lens dries out, it may however dislodge from the cornea and fold into itself.  It usually then lodges underneath the top eyelid.

There is no age limit (not too young or too old!) in fitting contact lenses.  Even babies and toddlers are fitted with contact lenses to overcome certain visual conditions (eg   congenital nystagmus).  Contact lenses can be considered at any age, if the wearer can confidently handle it and take responsibility to adhere to the wearing schedule, as prescribed by their Optometrist.

There is no one brand of contact lens that can cater for all eyes.  Factors such as prescription, curvature and size of your cornea, lifestyle needs and stability of your tearfilm must all be taken into account when selecting the lens best suited for your eyes.

Yes.  Your spectacle prescription in determined at the distance which your frame sits away from your eye, whereas your contact lens prescription is designed for the lens that fits flush against the cornea.  Additional measures are also taken to determine the base curve and diameter for the ideal fitted lens.

No two eyes are the same… Contact your Optometrist to arrange a fitting of a new or different branded contact lens, to determine your own success.

There are a variety of solutions available for all our different needs: eg, hypo-allergenic formula. Some is better at removing protein build-up from your lens, while others assist in combatting dry eyes by mimicking the tearlayer.

NEVER! Water can contain micro-organisms that could grow on the contact lens and then gets transferred into your eye.  This can cause very serious (even sight threatening) eye infections. Water is also not salty like our tears, and will cause the contact lens to swell and therefor change the fit of the lens on your cornea. It is recommended that you make use of goggles when swimming with your contact lenses.

Always wash your hands before and after handling your contact lenses.  Adhere strictly to the wearing schedule as recommended by your Optometrist.  Dispose of used solution after every use and allow the case to air dry. Use a lidwipe or eyelid cleanser periodically to ensure clean and hygienic eyelids for best quality and comfort.

Do not shower or bathe with your contact lenses.  Good eyelid hygiene will enhance the stability of your tearlayer.  Computer users should try blink exercises to reduce “afternoon blur”.  Never take an afternoon nap with your contact lenses, and try to insert lenses only 45 min after waking up.

Avoid waterproof mascara and eyeliner at all costs.  Hypo allergenic options are available for contact lens wearers.
